Kitchen Hood Fire Systems Inspection and Service Page

Kitchen hood fire suppression systems are required to be inspected on a semi-annual basis as a minimum requirement of NFPA 17A. Our highly trained technicians can inspect and service all types of kitchen hood fire suppression systems. Our software system will keep a record of when inspections are due so you never have to worry about being delinquent on required inspections. We can also provide training in the proper use and maintenance of your system so in a fire situation everyone will be prepared to respond appropriately.

Ion Fire Protection: Wet Chemical Fire Suppression Systems

Wet Chemical fire suppression systems will be inspected in accordance with N.F.P.A Standard 96 and 17A, local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and manufacturer guidelines. Ion Fire Protection will conduct semi-annual inspections of the wet chemical fire suppression systems and Inspect for the following items:

  • Check cylinders condition and verify last hydrostatic test
  • Inspect all pipes and conduits to ensure they are secure and in proper working order.
  • Inspect for visible signs showing that system has fired, leaked down, or been tampered with
  • Inspect gas valve operation and gas shutdown as required
  • Weigh activation cartridges as necessary and replace when required
  • Full function test of system to verify electric shutdown operation
  • Dry test system for automatic operation
  • Check for defects in equipment
  • Inspect linkage cable for fraying
  • Clean, de-grease, and replace rubber blow off caps on ansul nozzles
  • Quote customer cost for all repairs to defected equipment
  • Inspect pull station
  • Check for correct type of portable extinguisher(s) in Kitchen areas.
  • Check chemical type and quantity
  • Install newly dated fusible links (if ness.)
  • Install certification indicating compliance
  • Install & upgrade systems (if ness.)

Guidelines for Inspection and Testing Requirements for Kitchen Hood Fire Suppression Systems:

Wet Chemical Systems Monthly Quarterly Semi-annual Annual Other NFPA 17A
Maintenance rtr 5-3.1.1 At least semiannually, maintenance shall be conducted in accordance with the manufacturer’s listed installation and maintenance manual.
Container Test rtr 5-5a. The following parts of wet chemical extinguishing systems shall be subjected to a hydrostatic pressure test at intervals not exceeding 12 years: a. Wet Chemical Containers
Hose Test rtr 5-5a. The following parts of wet chemical extinguishing systems shall be subjected to a hydrostatic pressure test at intervals not exceeding 12 years: c. Hose Assemblies
Agent Replacement rtr 5-5a. Wet chemical agent removed from the containers prior to hydrostatic testing shall be discarded.
